What I will learn?

  • You'll learn the distinct phonetic sounds (vowels and consonants) that characterize British English. This includes understanding the nuances of British vowel sounds (e.g., the flat "a" in "bath" versus the rounded "a" in "father") and consonant articulation (e.g., the clear "r" sound).
  • This course emphasizes the intonation patterns and stress placements that are typical in British English. Teachers practice how stress affects meaning and how to use rising and falling intonation appropriately in sentences and questions.
  • Teachers learn how words and sounds are linked together in natural speech, known as connected speech. This includes understanding how to smoothly blend sounds and words to create a flowing and natural British accent.
  • Beyond pronunciation, teachers may learn common British vocabulary differences (e.g., "boot" instead of "trunk" for car storage) and cultural expressions that enrich their ability to communicate authentically in a British context.
  • This Course involves plenty of practical exercises and opportunities for teachers to practice speaking with a British accent. Listen to how words and sentences are pronounced and practice making paragraphs.
